How to remember
The kanji 金 originally depicted a lump of gold or unrefined metal with two ingots beneath it, clearly representing 'gold' or 'metal'. 'Kin' — A 'KINg' always has lots of GOLD and MONEY. Imagine the top two strokes as a 'roof' over a 'treasure chest' (the boxy part), which contains 'gold nuggets' (the bottom two dots) and 'money'.
