Hello Kanji — Effective April 15, 2026
Hello Kanji (“we”, “our”, or “us”) is a kanji learning application. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
1. Data we collect
When you sign in with Google, we receive:
- Your Google account name and email address
When you use the app, we store in our database:
- Your favorite kanji and pinned quiz sets
- Your quiz session history (scores and dates)
- Your font preference
We also collect anonymous usage analytics (screens visited, quiz completions, device type and language). No analytics data is linked to personally identifiable information beyond an internal user ID.
2. How we use your data
- To authenticate you and sync your personal data across devices
- To personalise your learning experience (quiz weighting, favorites)
- To understand how the app is used so we can improve it
We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising.
3. Third-party services
Hello Kanji uses the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policy:
- Firebase Authentication— manages sign-in ( Firebase Privacy)
- Cloud Firestore— stores your personal data ( Firebase Privacy)
- Firebase Analytics— anonymous usage analytics ( Firebase Privacy)
- Google Cloud Text-to-Speech— converts kanji text to audio. Text sent to this API is not stored by us. ( Google Cloud Privacy)
4. Data retention
Your account data is retained for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us at the address below, and we will delete it within 30 days.
5. Children's privacy
Hello Kanji is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.
6. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page.
